BOONE — Fort Dodge’s recent Dan Gable Mr. Wrestler of the Year tradition was extended here on Tuesday, as Dodger heavyweight champion Dreshaun Ross was named the Class 3A winner of the prestigious award.
Ross became the sixth FDSH athlete since 2017 to earn top recognition in 3A, joining Brody Teske (2017 and 2018) and Drake Ayala (2020 and 2021). The Oklahoma State wrestling recruit also received this recognition after his sophomore campaign in 2024.
A shoulder injury, which kept Ross out for over half of the season a year ago and off of the finalist ballot, may have been the only road block between Ross and a third Gable honor.
Ross recently completed one of the most exceptional high school careers in the state’s history. He captured gold for a fourth time — joining Teske as one of just seven to do so at the large-class level — by dicing up the 285-pound field.
Ross was 35-0 as a senior, with all 35 wins coming in the first period. He posted a record of 146-2 in his FDSH career, with both losses coming as a freshman.
The first team all-state football player became the state’s biggest freshman champ by winning the 195-pound crown in 2023. Ross was the 215-pound gold medalist in both 2024 and ’25.
Ross closed his career with 139 straight victories, finishing with 88 pins and 31 technical falls during that stretch. He was the ninth different Dodger titleist during a banner run under head coach Bobby Thompson, which has included 19 combined individual crowns clinched by Teske (2015-18), Sam Cook (2015-16), Triston Lara (2016-17), Ayala (2019-21), Drew Bennett (2018), Carson Taylor (2019), Koy Davidson (2024) and Damarion Ross (2024) over the last 12 seasons.
Tuesday’s banquet and ceremony was hosted by ceremony hosted by the Iowa Wrestling Coaches Officials Association and presented by Fareway Stores, Inc., IAwrestle and Iowa Corn.
