Ohlmeier earns regional honors for Tritons

Trista Ohlmeier capped off her freshman season at Iowa Central with all-region and all-defensive team honors.

Ohlmeier produced just under 14 points with 10 rebounds per game, adding in 56 blocked shots. All of those numbers placed her in the Top-5 in the ICCAC.

In a win over Northeast, Ohlmeier exploded for 32 points, 15 rebounds and two blocked shots.

“Trista had a great year for us and stepped up in a lot of big moments to help close out games,” ICCC head coach Graham McFall said. “Her length and athleticism allowed her to impact the game on both ends of the floor, and that was a big part of our success this season.”

Iowa Central finished this season with 22 wins, 15 more than last year, and also won 15 conference games — 13 better than a season ago under first-year head coach Graham McFall.

Fellow freshman Shakani Murray was placed on the second team for the Tritons while sophomore Ashlin Jacobsen made the third.

Shakani did a great job managing our offense and distributing the basketball,” McFall said. “Her ability to both facilitate and score in multiple ways gave us great balance offensively and allowed us to stretch the floor with our shooters.

“Ashlin gave us another consistent scoring threat this year with several 15-plus point performances. She has the ability to score in bunches, whether that’s attacking the rim or knocking down shots from the perimeter.”

Murray averaged 11 points per game with almost five rebounds and four assists while Jacobsen posted 10 points, 3.5 rebounds and two assists.

North Iowa Area picked up the player of the year award with Reggi Spotts, coach of the year with Brad Vaught and top newcomer with Ciara Siefert. Marshalltown’s Kenijae Cherry was the defensive player of the year.
