No. 8 Tritons pick up two more wins
The eighth-ranked Iowa Central baseball team picked up two more victories here Thursday at Rogers Park, sweeping a doubleheader vs. Minnesota West.
Scores were 11-1 in five innings and 21-5 in seven.
The Tritons (11-1 overall) have now scored at least 10 runs in nine straight and 11 of 12 to start the year.
Ethan Biggar, Jaren Lauver and Sean Stewart combined on a two-hitter, as Biggar struck out seven with two walks, throwing 41 of his 64 pitches for strikes. The lone run scored was unearned.
At the plate, Mitch Seykora — the No. 8 hitter — was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, as Tate Perrin drove in two. Bennett Burke was 2-for-2, scoring twice and driving in a run.
The Tritons plated runs in all five innings, including three in both the second and third frames.
Bryson Carpenter came around to score three times while George McIntyre and Sawyer Stein each scored two runs.
Cooper Den Hartog pitched three perfect innings in the nightcap, striking out seven. Aiden Smith, Kyle Haynes, Colin Fike and Dylan Kulper all pitched an inning, with each recording two strikeouts.
Big innings helped provide support, as the Tritons scored four in the first, six in the third and seven in the fifth. Will Specht had a home run for Iowa Central.
Wyatt Myers and Lane Olson both were 3-for-3 with three RBI, as Myers scored three runs and Olson two. Drew Fitzpatrick was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs, Will Specht had three runs scored and plated three more, Jack Ratcliffe had two runs and two hits, McIntyre plated a pair and Carpenter scored twice.
Iowa Central stole 17 bases and received 18 walks in the twinbill, as McIntyre and Myers both stole three in the second game.
The Tritons hit the road for three straight starting Saturday with a doubleheader at Redlands in El Reno, Okla.
