No. 21 Tritons can’t get past No. 9 DMACC

Facing their first major test of the season, the 21st-ranked Iowa Central softball squad dropped a twinbill to No. 9 DMACC on Sunday at Rogers Park.

Scores were 11-3 and 8-1 in favor of the Bears.

DMACC (28-7 overall, 11-1 in the ICCAC) plated four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to break the dam on the opener and extend its 3-0 lead. Jersey Hawf homered for the Tritons (24-6, 9-3), with Hawf and Avery McKinney both collecting two hits. McKinney tripled.

Five of the Bears’ runs were unearned, as Iowa Central committed three errors.

Mackenzie Mohler homered and drove in five with three hits. Leadoff batter Morgan Neuroth collected four hits — including two doubles — and scored four times.

DMACC jumped ahead immediately with four runs in the first inning of the nightcap and never looked back. Natalie Rasmussen homered for the Tritons, who committed three more errors in defeat.

Former Newell-Fonda all-stater Kierra Jungers did the rest, firing a two-hitter in the circle. Jungers, a Creighton University commit, struck out eight in improving to 11-5 on the season with 180 Ks. Her ERA on the season is 1.42.

On Saturday, Iowa Central split with Hawkeye (10-20, 3-9) in another home doubleheader. The Tritons were doubled up in the opener, 4-2, before pitching an 8-0 shutout in game two.

Rasmussen went deep and Hawf doubled in the first contest, with Jozie Kerr going 2-for-3. All four Hawkeye runs were unearned.

It was all Iowa Central in the five-inning nightcap, as Jaidan Abel tossed a no-hitter with nine strikeouts. Hawf went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI to anchor the offense. Former Southeast Valley standout Ellie Nolte added a pair of hits — including a double — and drove in two.

The Tritons return to action on Wednesday at No. 4 Kirkwood. First pitch of the twinbill is set for 2 p.m.

Starting at $4.94/week.
