Iowa Central sweeps in Kansas
SHAWNEE, Kan. — The Iowa Central softball team earned two victories here Saturday, plating 23 runs in the process.
The 22nd-ranked (NJCAA Div. II) Tritons (5-3 overall) defeated Fort Scott, 11-9, and St. Louis CC, 12-7.
In the opener, Jersey Hawf homered and drove in three with two hits and three runs scored. Josephine Moore was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI, and Avery McKinney went 3-for-3 with two runs.
Natalie Rasmussen, Kyra Kain and Jillian French added two hits each. Iowa Central trailed 9-6 before plating five runs in the bottom of the sixth to come out on top.
Iowa Central rallied from a 7-1 deficit in the second game with an eight-run fourth innning. Hawf homered twice and drove in five. McKinney was 2-for-3 with three RBI from the No. 9 spot in the order.
Kain collected three hits. Moore was 2-for-4.
Jaidan Abel worked the final 4.2 innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out six for the victory.
The Tritons are back in action on Sundayagainst Monroe and Prairie State in Melbourne, Fla.
