Iowa Central men’s basketball team will face Schoolcraft at NJCAA nationals

The Iowa Central men received the No. 5 seed for the upcoming NJCAA Div. II National Tournament.

The Tritons will begin action on Monday at 6 p.m. vs. Schoolcraft in Danville, Ill. from the Mary Miller Center.

Iowa Central captured a district championship to automatically qualify after claiming the Region 11-B Tournament title on its home court. The Tritons are one of three ICCAC schools in the field, as they are joined by Des Moines Area and Ellsworth.

DMACC earned the No. 1 overall seed after winning the Region 11-A Tournament. Ellsworth qualified as an at-large.

All three ICCAC schools are on the same side of the 20-team bracket. Along with having played the Bears and Panthers twice, Iowa Central has also faced fellow national qualifiers Milwaukee Area and Johnson County this season.

With a win over Schoolcraft, the Tritons would meet either No. 4 seed Pima, Davidson-Davie or Fort Scott on Thursday, March 19.

Iowa Central is 26-6 this season. The Tritons have won six in a row, including the victory over Dakota County for the district crown. They are 12-3 on the road and 2-0 in neutral court games under first-year head coach Mason Denholm.

Starting at $4.94/week.
