Gael boys march into state semifinals
Top-seeded St. Edmond easily handles Woodbine

DES MOINES – The St. Edmond boys basketball team is back in the state semifinal round.
The top-ranked and top-seeded Gaels defeated Woodbine in a Class 1A quarterfinal matchup at the Casey’s Center on Tuesday afternoon, 60-44.
Senior all-stater Hunter Horn had 17 points and nine rebounds for St. Edmond (24-2 overall). Carson Bargfrede (14) and Jakob Koopman (11) also reached double figures. Bargfrede and Koopman both grabbed six rebounds. Jack McElroy dished out four assists.
The Gaels are making their 15th state tournament appearance all-time and 11th under legendary head coach Adolph Kochendorfer, who is in his final season at the helm. Kochendorfer led St. Edmond to its only state title in 2000, and has four runner-up finishes on his Hall of Fame resume as well.
Landon Blum scored 20 points for Woodbine (17-8).
St. Edmond now faces either Burlington Notre Dame or Bellevue in the 1A semifinals back here on Thursday at 2 p.m.
