34 more runs for No. 14 Triton baseball squad

The No. 14 (NJCAA Div. II) Iowa Central baseball team picked up another sweep here on Thursday, this time besting Anoka-Ramsey at Rogers Park.

Scores were 17-2 in five innings and 17-15.

The Tritons (21-1 overall) have now won games 17 in a row, scoring over 10 runs in seven straight and 20 of 22 times this year. They are 13-1 at home to begin the spring season.

In the 13 innings that Iowa Central came to the plate in the doubleheader, they scored runs in nine of them, including seven in the fourth of the opener and five in both the fourth and seventh frames of the nightcap.

Will Specht hit two home runs in game one. Sam Sejnoha, Bryson Carpenter and George McIntyre all went deep as well. Sejnoha was 3-for-4 with six RBI and three runs scored, Sawyer Stein plated three runs and scored three times, Tate Perrin scored three runs, and Specht drove in three.

McIntyre added three runs and two hits, and Mitch Seykora stole two bases. Will Myers, Stein and Sejnoha each tallied triples.

On the mound, Maddux Gast picked up the win, striking out three over three one-hit innings. Dylan Kulper recorded a pair of strikeouts.

Carson Schroeder retired all three batters he faced via strikeout in the fifth.

“We really played well in the opener,” ICCC head coach Eric Stein said. “We put together big innings, had strong pitching and our defense was sound.”

The Tritons had to fight back to finish the sweep after Anoka-Ramsey took a 7-0 lead in the top of the first. The Golden Rams (2-5-1) also plated five in the ninth before Iowa Central recorded the final out of the victory.

Perrin had a two-homer game in the nightcap. Stein, McIntyre, Will Specht and Parker Studtmann each went yard as well.

Perrin was 4-for-6 with five RBI and thre runs scored, Studtmann drove in three.

Stein, Specht and Bennett Burke each plated a pair.

McIntyre also scored three runs. Lane Olson had three hits with two runs scored. Cooper Den Hartog and Jaren Lauver had five strikeouts each. Lauver earned the win.

“We had to use some guys to get outs there in the second game,” Stein said. “We made some mistakes, but we made key pitches that helped us get out of situations as well.

“It’s still a learning curve right now for a lot of these guys.”

Iowa Central now turns its attention to a three-game ICCAC series opener with Des Moines Area, which begins on Friday back at Rogers Park with a single contest at 2 p.m. The twinbill is set for Saturday starting at 1 p.m.

Starting at $4.94/week.
