12th-ranked Tritons drop three games

It was a rough weekend at the ballpark for the Iowa Central baseball team.

The 12th-ranked Tritons were swept by No. 11 Southeastern on their home turf, falling 9-5 on Saturday and 6-4 and 11-9 on Sunday.

Iowa Central (25-4 overall, 4-3 in the ICCAC) had won 21 consecutive games before the series with the Blackhawks (20-8, 6-1). In the opener, the Tritons led 4-2 in the sixth before Southeastern rallied with three runs in the frame to go on top.

The Blackhawks then plated three more in the seventh to take the lead for good.

Iowa Central was led offensively by Tate Perrin and Sam Sejnoha, who both hit two-run homers. The Tritons were hindered by their defense, committing five errors in defeat. They also stranded 11 runners on base.

Sunday didn’t bring better results. Perrin homered and doubled in the opener, but it wasn’t enough. In the nightcap, Perrin and George McIntyre went deep with two- and three-run blasts, respectively, to push Iowa Central ahead 5-1 after four.

Iowa Central then gave up six straight runs, but did rally to take a brief 9-7 lead on a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh by Ben Jones. The Blackhawks countered with a four-run answer, however, and the Tritons stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth.

Iowa Central now hits the road, traveling to Northeast (Neb.) on Wednesday followed by a weekend series at Marshalltown.

Starting at $4.94/week.
