Tritons plate 46 in sweep

For the third time in the last decade, the eighth-ranked Iowa Central baseball team put up 30 runs in a game.
The Tritons scored a dominating sweep over Mott here Friday at Rogers Park.
Scores were 14-1 in five inning and 32-9.
The run total in game two were the most for Iowa Central (9-1 overall) since they scored 34 vs. Iowa Lakes in 2024, a number they reached a second time against the Lakers later that season.
“We’re just looking to build consistency,” ICCC head coach Eric Stein said. “Both in terms of our offense at the plate and with our pitching. We’ve been able to get a lot of guys looks in multiple roles, but we just need to find that consistent approach before the conference season begins.”
Mott (0-6) came into the doubleheader having been outscored, 29-7. They took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap before Iowa Central scored five straight. A nine-run fourth preceded the big fifth.
The offense has been clicking for the Tritons through the early portion of the schedule. Iowa Central had scored 100 runs in its first eight games, including 10-plus in five straight. They have now reached double digits in nine of 10 overall and seven straight.
“We’ve looked really good at times this year,” Stein said. “It is still a work in progress throughout our lineup and with our pitching.”
Bennett Burke, Noah Boschee and Tate Perrin each went deep in game one, as Burke was 2-for-2, driving in five and scoring twice. Perrin had two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base, as George McIntyre and Wyatt Myers each scored twice.
Boschee’s home run was a three-run blast.
Maddux Gast picked up the win, striking out a pair over four innings of work.
Iowa Central blasted five homers in the second game, including another by Perrin. Sawyer Stein, Sam Sejnoha, Lane Olson and Matt Galatzer also each went deep. They plated 17 runs alone in the fifth.
Olson finished 2-for-3 with eight RBI and our runs scored, Galatzer drove in five and Perrin plated four with two runs. Jacob Coshenet scored four times, as did Parker Studtmann, who also drove in two.
Isaiah Brennan struck out eight in three-plus innings of work on the mount while Patrick Binnebose retired three of the four batters he faced by strikeout in the seventh.
These two teams are scheduled for a single nine-inning game back here Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
