Triton men drop road contest vs. Kirkwood

CEDAR RAPIDS — The No. 11 Iowa Central men were unable to maintain a halftime lead on 13th-ranked Kirkwood here on Wednesday night, falling by a final of 77-68.

The Tritons (20-6 overall, 12-5 in the ICCAC) led by eight at the break, as Dorian Pruitt started strong with three 3-pointers. Aleix Sempere and Manny Lueth each scored six in the opening 20 minutes.

The rest of the way, though, the Eagles (20-6, 12-5) rallied behind 15 points from Manasse Kasongo and 10 by Chris Coleman, who was 8-for-8 at the free throw line.

Tashun Pender scored 18 to lead Iowa Central. Lueth added 12 and Aleix Sempere had 10 points with nine rebounds. The Tritons shot just 39 percent from the field and were 5 of 11 at the charity stripe.

For Kirkwood, Coleman had a game-high 23 and Kasongo added 20 with eight rebounds and three blocks. The Eagles hit 25 of 29 free throws and buried eight triples.

Next up for Iowa Central will be a trip to Columbus, Neb. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, to face Central.
