Title in sight for Wuebker

DES MOINES — Karson Wuebker continued his run of quick finishes here Friday, with the latest earning him a spot in the Class 1A, 106-pound championship match.

Wuebker, a sophomore from South Central Calhoun, scored his second straight technical fall inside Casey’s Center in the semifinals over Josh Nelson of Nodaway Valley, 15-0 in 70 seconds.

With the win, he now advances to Saturday’s finals where he will take on top-seed Ty Martin of Don Bosco for the championship.

Wuebker, the No. 2 seed, also posted a technical fall in the quarterfinals over Hunter Hussing of Nodaway Valley, 18-1 in two minutes, and pinned Keaton Wittrock of Manson Northwest Webster in the second round in 59 seconds.

After reaching the quarters last year, Wuebker settled for fifth. He is now 59-2 on the season and 112-7 in his career at SCC in two seasons.

Pedersen suffered a tough 5-4 decision loss to Keegan Long of Earlham in the quarterfinals, bouncing right back with a 21-5 technical fall of Antoni Solovi of Postville in the consolations to stay alive.

He will now face off with Will Howes out of MFL MarMac for seventh.

Curtis Bullock scored a 51-second fall in the consolation second round, but was eliminated by Cael Stricker of Lisbon in the next, ending his year with a record of 47-19.

West Bend-Mallard

Hunter Lester came up short of reaching the finals at 106 pounds, falling to top-seed Ty Martin of Don Bosco in the semis, 13-4.

Lester, who picked up a 6-1 decision in the quarterfinals and had a fall in the second round, will take on Hudson Cox of Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas in the consolation semifinals Saturday.

With a win, Lester, a freshman, will wrestle for third. A loss sends him to the fifth place match.

Knapp was unable to solve Jensen Dyer of Martensdale-St. Marys in the quarterfinals at 120. He did post a 3-1 decision over Mason Fogt of Hudson in his first consolation match.

In the consolation fifth round, Knapp fell to Joe Hackett of Waterloo Columbus, 17-11. He will face Jesse Burton of Westwood for seventh.

Emmetsburg

Ryan Wirtz and Nick Saxton ran into tough semifinal round opponents, coming up short of reaching the finals.

Wirtz was pinned by Keaton Moeller of Starmont at 190 pounds and will wrestle in the consolations on Saturday. He will face Blake Mytrue of Ridge View.

Saxton fell to Keegan Long of Earlham, 3-1 in a tiebreaker, and can still finish as high as third like Wirtz. Saxton gets Owen Menke from Sigourney-Keota next.

Bradyen Yates dropped a 4-0 decision to Max Shanno of Riverside Oakland in the consolation fourth round, 4-0, ending his year with a record of 36-10. He had picked up two consolation round wins, including a 9-4 decision vs. Gavin Wetzel of Southwest Valley.

Pocahontas Area

Jakob Lawson earned another consolation round win but was bested by Kaleb Gordon of Jesup in the fifth round, pushing him into the seventh-place match.

Lawson, with a record of 39-9, will wrestle Hunter Hussing of Missouri Valley on Saturday.

William Lawson and Adam Marsh came up short in the fourth round of consolation matches. Lawson dropped a 7-0 decision to Austin Henderson of Wayne after earning a 7-1 decision vs. Trevor Phillips from Columbus/WMU, ending his season 41-5 overall.

Marsh, meanwhile, fell to Carter Richter of ACGC, 7-1, after a 9-2 decision vs. Reed Slater from BGM. His year comes to a conclusion with a record of 26-7.

Manson NW

Mason Anderson had a heartbreaking conclusion to his state tournament run, as the Cougar 190-pounder lost in sudden-victory to Riceville’s Reagan Richardson, 4-1. Anderson was coming off a major decision vs. Gabriel Iriarte of Nashua-Plainfield in the second round of consolations.

Anderson’s season ends with a record of 39-9.

East Sac County

Dawson Allen suffered an 11-9 decision loss to Andrew Hall of Saint Ansgar at 165 pounds, ending his run. Allen had scored a fall vs. Sully Thompson of BGM to stay alive, bowing out with a record of 38-20.
