DES MOINES — History is in sight.
Dreshaun Ross is on the verge of further etching his name in the Iowa history books.
It took 70 seconds for Ross to reach the 285 pound championship round for the fourth time on Friday night, as he beat Cary Cox (47-7) of Pleasant Valley for the second time this season.
The Oklahoma State recruit is now 15-0 in the state tournament, with his fifth tech fall and he has now won 11 straight matches by fall or tech fall in Des Moines.
“It’s an honor and privilege to sit in his corner,” said Fort Dodge head coach Bobby Thompson. “I hope the community and his teammates realize the joy it is to be around home.

“He might be the best wrestler to come out of the state of Iowa — it’s been a treat for four years.”
Ross (34-0) and Osage’s Blake Fox are looking to become the 33rd and 34th four time state champions in Iowa history.
“It means a lot to me to have the opportunity to win a fourth state title (Saturday night) and do something special,” Ross said. “I don’t know if it’s second nature to me, but it’s just what I expect out of myself to go out there and do. It’s definitely just taking one match at a time and not overlooking anything.
“It means the world to me to make my family proud and when I go out on the mat knowing I’m representing more than myself, it just gives me even more motivation to go out there and perform.”
The Dodger senior, who has the chance to bring home the 68th state championship back to FDSH, will get his shot at history against second-seed Brady Hagan (36-4) of Dowling.

Ross has faced Hagan twice this season with identical 21-6 victories.
The top recruit in the nation has now won 137 consecutive matches and is 144-2 in his career. It was his 88th career fall.
“The thing that makes him more special, is he’s going to be great in anything he does,” Thompson said. “Personally, in business, and leadership, he is the full package.
“He will be successful in everything that he does.”
Ross is aiming to bring home the Ross family total to six state titles, with one from Damarion and one from Alexis as well. The Ross siblings have reached the state semifinals a combined 11 times. Dreshaun and Alexis four each, Damarion two and Drevon once.

The Dodgers had four semifinalists for the seventh time since 2015. Freshman Knox Ayala (106), seniors Rylee Brown (165) and Jesse Egli (190) all lost, pushing them to the consolation semifinals.
Fort Dodge is currently in 11th place with 67.5 team points. Southeast Polk (184) is leading the team race, followed by Bettendorf (125.5) and Indianola (120).
Brown, who took the tournament by storm on Thursday night with one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, suffered a 13-3 setback to No. 2 Calvin Rathhen (27-2) of Ankeny at 165 pounds.
Brown (30-8), the 10th-seed upset No. 2 Noah Hawk-Erwin, 6-5 to put him in the medal round for the first time in his career in four state trips.
The Dodger senior now has 120 career victories and will finish in the Top-20 of Fort Dodge’s all-time win list.
Brown will now face No. 5 Dokken Biladeau (32-8) of Southeast Polk in the consolation semifinal round. The four-time state qualifier can finish as high as third and no worse than sixth.
“Rylee was definitely the underdog, but he came into this tournament and let it fly,” Thompson said. “We had a shot in that match (semifinals). Rylee threw down and gave it a hard six.
“Rylee is here and having fun. The key to Rylee that makes me happy — is he is having fun and he’s going to end his career on the podium. He’s going to remember Fort Dodge wrestling as a good experience.”
Egli (28-9) who was also making his fourth state trip will bring home his first state medal as well. Egli pulled off a quarterfinal upset as well, when he beat second-seed Andy Franke (42-2) of Muscatine to advance to the semifinals.
He joined his brothers Duke, Jonah, Ben and Levi with seven semifinal appearances and will have the eighth medal for the siblings.
Egli lost a tight 4-2 decision to Louden Bloxham (23-3) of Cedar Rapids Prairie. Now in the consolation semifinals, he will face No. 8 Dalton Zednichek (17-2) of Marshalltown. Egli can finish as third and no worse than sixth.
“For Jesse it was nice to get the monkey off of his back,” Thompson said. “It was a winnable match and he knows it.
“We have the Marshalltown kid now. And what I think the hardest for a wrestler and shows a lot of character, to come back and get third. To win the third place medal is a lot better than to lose in the championship match.”
Ayala (29-6), the fourth-seed, ran into a buzzsaw in the 106 pound semifinal. The freshman Dodger was pitted against top-seed Amir Newman-Winfrey (44-1) of Southeast Polk.
Newman-Winfrey controlled the pace and pulled out a 16-3 decision. He will wrestle for a state championship against two-seed Cruz Gannon (35-2) of Dowling.
He’ll meet No. 11 Vincent Moore (41-12), a freshman from Valley.
Now Ayala, the youngest of the Ayala siblings will compete in the 106 pound consolation semifinals, has the chance to finish as high as third and at worst sixth.
Ayala joined his brother Drake and Dru for a combined nine trips to the state semifinals.
The rookie won his first two matches by tech fall and a decision.
“Newman-Winfrey is a very physically talented wrestler,” Thompson said. “Now do I think we could have wrestled a better match — yes.
“Knox is technically sound and has a great mindset, he’s going to come back strong.”
