DES MOINES — A trio of Manson Northwest Webster wrestlers will finish their careers on the big stage after strong senior campaigns on the mat.
Cougars Keaton Wittrock (106 pounds), Hunter Newman (165) and Mason Anderson (190) all punched their first state tickets for the Class 1A field.
Wittrock (34-9) and Anderson (37-7) both eclipsed the 100-win marks for their respective careers this season.
Wittrock, who is 107-55, earned the 15 seed and will face freshman Brody Hosek (33-12) of Belle Plane.
With a win, a familiar Twin Lakes Conference opponent, No. 2 Karson Wuebker (56-2) of South Central Calhoun, would be next.
“The season has been going very well for me. I placed at every tournament, won districts, and got my 100th win,” Wittrock said. “I learned a lot of new things.
“It means a lot to me going to state this year for my final year, especially since I got third (at districts) the last two years after losing in the wrestlebacks.”
Anderson, who is 118-53, earned the 11 seed and will meet Andrew Rolling (12-4) of Beckman. Sixth-seeded Blake Myrtue (36-1) of Ridge View awaits the winner.
“This season has gone well so far. I’ve been able to win multiple tournaments, achieve 100 wins and learned a lot of new helpful things,” Anderson said. “To go to state means a lot to me since my dad, brother and sister all went to the state tournament and I’ve been working the past three years at getting here and making an impact.”
Newman, who is now 79-44 in his career and is the 14 seed, has 19th-seeded Burke Shane (38-11) of Riceville. The winner will meet Ryan Groom (33-0) of North Mahaska.
“It’s great to get to state,” Newman said. “Especially after getting third at districts last year. This has been a goal of mine since I started wrestling.
“I went out for the first time during the fall of my freshman year when one of my friends invited me to an open mat not thinking much of it, but shortly after, I fell in love with the sport.”
South Central Calhoun
Karson Wuebker had a brilliant start to his career as a freshman.
Now, the second-seeded sophomore is looking for much more at 106 pounds.
Wuebker (56-2), who is 109-7 in his two prep seasons with the Titans, reached the quarterfinals last winter before finishing fifth.
Classmate Cooper Nattress (175) and senior Jace Pedersen (285) are both making their second trips to Des Moines.
Nattress (41-10) is 82-26 in two seasons. Pedersen is 50-6 this season.

The Wolverine senior enters the state tournament with a career record of 140-31. Knapp earned a first-round bye as the No. 8 seed.

Wirtz will be looking for his first state medal and has put together a career mark of 119-48.
A trio of seniors will join Wirtz for their first trips. CJ Rodirguez (126), Brayden Yates (165) and Nick Saxton (285) are also competing for the E-Hawks.
