Jaguars win TLC crown
GOWRIE — With their 17th win of the season, Southeast Valley claimed the Twin Lakes Conference championship out right.
The Jaguars (17-1 overall, 11-0 TLC) finished unbeaten with a 68-42 victory over East Sac County on Friday night.
“It was really special to win it with this group,” said Kyle Johnson, who is in his 16th year as head coach. “The thing is I didn’t expect to win it coming into the season.
“We just kept looking at it during the season after wins that they were just big conference wins. Once we got a lot closer we thought we could do it.”
Johnson, a Fort Dodge graduate, saw the victory over Sioux Central as the turning point.
“After we beat them for the first time in six or seven years, we thought we had a chance,” Johnson said. “They beat us handily when this group was sophomores. Cornell (Lowery) has really stepped it up.
“This group has really blended well together.”
On Friday night it was Casey Hanson who led the Jaguars with 15 points. Bryce Harrison had 14 and Lowery checked in with 10.
