DES MOINES — There’s been a change of plans for Broedy Hendricks.
Or better yet, a change in demeanor.
The top-ranked 190-pound Humboldt junior is headed to Des Moines with a state championship on his mind.
During his freshman campaign, Hendricks reached the championship round before coming up short. He then finished fourth last season.
“It means a lot to be back for the third run at a title,” said Hendricks who is 141-9 in his career. “This year is different — I’m going with a purpose.
“I’m going to dominate.”
Hendricks (50-1), the second seed in Class 2A, has been impressive all season, losing only one match — to top-seed Maximus Purdy (31-3) of Davenport Assumption.
It won’t be a solo trip for the Wildcat senior, as he will be joined by seven teammates.
“Taking multiple kids this year is huge,” Hendricks said. “It has to be the year where we have made the most improvements (as a squad).
“It’s been the attitude coming into practice just to get better, no matter how you feel. Push the pace, sharpen your tools, and just go out there and scrap — you don’t have anything to worry about.”
