Fort Dodge boys wrap up bowling season

LE MARS — The Fort Dodge boys bowling team competed at a state-qualifying meet here on Monday.

The Dodgers finished fifth with a total of 2,554. Denison-Schleswig was the winner at 3,034. Lewis Central (2,918) was next in line, followed by Le Mars (2,906) and West Sioux (2,670).

In the singles competition, Blake Seeman was the top Dodger, shooting a 556. Seeman had games of 157, 196, and 203.

Kody Van Valkenburg was next in line for the Dodgers with a 535. He had games of 211, 159, and 165.

Seeman placed 14th and Van Valkenburg was 18th.

Lium Powers (145-182-168–495), Leland Sassman (152-160-181–493), Slade Babb (156-161-153–470) and Orrin Rurup (174-151-94–419) rounded out the lineup.

“All six senior boys bowled for the last time as a Dodger. It’s always hard emotionally when that day comes but I know they were hoping their final day to compete was going to be at the state tournament,” said FDSH bowling coach Julie Ulrich. “It just wasn’t the best day for the boys individually. The way Slade and Kody came out throwing strikes in bakers I was hoping when the lanes were re-oiled for the singles portion of the event they would start the same way.

“Kody had a great first game of 211 but just didn’t continue to find the pocket the next two games. Slade who has shot some very big scores all season just didn’t have that kind of day when it mattered most. I feel badly for all of the boys. I know they had hopes of qualifying individually.”

Starting at $4.94/week.
