INDIANOLA — The 15th-ranked Fort Dodge wrestling team begins their postseason trek on Tuesday night.

The Dodgers (7-3 overall) will face No. 18 Johnston in a Class 3A regional dual in Indianola.

The winner will advance to face second-rated Indianola following the semifinals.

Fort Dodge has put together a strong dual season, losing only three matches: to No. 3 Dowling, No. 6 Dubuque Hempstead and No. 13 North Scott.

“The guys want to go out there and get after them,” said FDSH head coach Bobby Thompson, who is set to retire after this season. “We are pretty close with Johnston. Indianola is pretty salty.”

The Dodgers are coming off of their fourth straight Iowa Alliance Conference championship, where they crowned five individual champions.

Fourth-ranked (IAwrestle) Knox Ayala (106), No. 6 Damien Yeoman (113), sixth-ranked Trace Rial (120), ninth-ranked Rylee Brown (165) and top-ranked Dreshaun Ross (285) claimed championships.

Twelve of the 13 Dodger wrestlers medaled as the Dodgers were 10-for-11 in wrestled matches in the placement round.

Oklahoma State commit Dreshaun Ross (28-0) has now won 132 consecutive matches and has a career mark of 139-2. Ross is two wins from tying his older brother Damarion Ross (141-34).

“We just want to focus on qualifying for the state tournament (traditional),” Thompson said. “We may move the lineup around against Johnston to get the best matchup, but Johnston has some good depth.”
