Dodgers head to Roosevelt

The Fort Dodge girls basketball team is concluding their regular season, while the Dodger boys have two games left on the slate.

Both the girls and boys will travel to Des Moines Roosevelt on Tuesday.

The FDSH girls (7-13 overall) open the doubleheader against the Roughriders (14-6) at 6:15 p.m., with the Dodger boys (2-16) to follow against eighth-ranked (Class 4A) Roosevelt (14-4) at 7:45 p.m.

The Fort Dodge girls are coming off a 57-13 victory over Des Moines North last Friday.

Fort Dodge’s all-time girls five-player scoring leader, LJ Maehl, had 24 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Brooklyn Gilliland added 11 points, three rebounds, five assists and four steals. Sophomore Malay Hollins checked in with eight points.

Maehl enters her final regular-season contest with 1,299 points, while also ranking second all-time in rebounds (665; 17 from taking first), seventh all-time in assists (163; three from taking sixth) and sixth in steals (171; 10th from taking fifth). She is fourth in varsity games played (86) heading into Tuesday — one behind Molly Nelson, who is in third at 87. The top two are Justice Crooks (91) and Morgan Paulson (89).

Roosevelt dropped a close 67-64 decision to Cedar Rapids Prairie the last time out to end a seven-game win streak.
