MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge boys swim team wrapped up the season by competing in a district meet here Saturday.

While the Dodgers did not qualify anyone through for the state championships, they saw time drops across the board throughout the event.

West Des Moines Valley finished first overall followed by Ankeny and Decorah. Fort Dodge placed eighth.

“Districts went well,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “We had almost 100 percent best times for everyone and had large drops for many of the guys, including David Nelson in the 100 freestyle and Jayden Stanley in the 500 freestyle.

“I’m extremely proud of how far our seniors have come in the last four years and the impact they have made on this program.”

The Dodger 400 freestyle relay reached the podium, placing sixth overall. Nelson, Stanley, Trevor Roberts and Aiden Seagren comprised the quartet, clocking a time of 3:45.02.

Seagren also had a pair of lifetime-best times in placing ninth in both the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley. He was 58.12 in the 100 butterfly with splits of 26.61 and 31.51, while going 2:14.68 in the 200 IM with an opening leg of 26.32.

Nelson finished 11th in two individual events, going 1:02.14 in the 100 backstroke and 52.55 in the 100 freestyle. Stanley was 13th in the 500 freestyle in 6:21.96 and 15th in the 200 freestyle in 2:12.03.

The Fort Dodge 200 freestyle relay of Nelson, Stanley, Roberts and Seagren placed seventh in 1:39.66, just missing a podium appearance.

For Bishop Garrigan, senior Colin Roberts placed ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.09) and sophomore Matt Besch was 10th in the 100 butterfly (58.32). The Golden Bears had 93 points and placed seventh in the standings.

Chancellor Grimm took 17th in the 200 freestyle (2:22.73), Rowan Poutre was 20th in the 100 backstroke (1:18.97) and 23rd in the 100 freestyle (1:04.20) and Roberts was 19th in the 100 freestyle (59.63) and 21st in the 50 freestyle (26.55).

Ayden Hernandez finished 22nd in the 50 freestyle (26.70).

Seniors for the Dodgers included Samuel Brockbank, Owen Gruver, Hernandez, Jaxson Lowrey-Jones and Seagren.
