HOLSTEIN — The St. Edmond wrestling team is set to compete here Saturday in a Class 1A district tournament hosted by Ridge View.

Action begins at 10 a.m.

Joining the Gaels and host Raptors will be East Sac County, Pocahontas Area Alta-Aurelia, Audubon, Coon Rapids-Bayard, GTRA, Lawton Bronson and MVAOCOU.

Champions and runners-up at each weight class advance to the state tournament, which begins Wednesday in Des Moines from the Casey’s Center.

Sophomore Matthew Crimmins is a returning state qualifier for St. Edmond, as the 144-pounder enters districts with a record of 32-6. Crimmins won a match at state last year before bowing out in the consolation rounds, finishing 26-12 overall.

Freshman Nick Utley has a record of 14-13 and will be at 106 pounds for SEHS head coach Kaden McClintock, as classmate Jace Stanley owns 12 wins and is at 113.

Cooper Cokeley, Sam Touney, Evan Knox and Grant Anderson complete the projected lineup.

East Sac County has seven wrestlers with 10-plus wins, including Dawson Allen, who wrestles at 165 pounds and is 33-17. Cal McCullough has 27 victories, Oliver Engel has 20, Owen Engel owns 18, Seth Donelson has 17, Evan Brockman owns 13 and Emmett Lahr has 10.

Pocahontas Area is led by senior William Lawson, a 175-pounder with a record of 36-2, sophomore Jakob Lawson, a 106-pounder who is 33-6, and sophomore Adam Marsh, a 215-pounder with a record of 20-5. Paxton Cundiff, a freshman, owns 13 wins, as junior Brody Wallace has 11.

In other 1A districts, Emmetsburg and West Bend-Mallard compete in Lake Mills, Manson Northwest Webster heads to Ogden and South Central Calhoun is at Riverside.

Webster City hosts Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, Eagle Grove and Southeast Valley, Humboldt and Greene County are at Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Algona is at Sioux Center in 2A.
