8 Humboldt wrestlers advance to state

SERGEANT BLUFF — Humboldt will take a group of eight wrestlers to the state tournament, led by three district champions.
Karson Reinhardt (132), Jonny Hayden (138), and Broedy Hendricks (190) all claimed district titles on their way to earning state bids here on Saturday.
“It was a good day for the Wildcats,” said HHS head coach Chad Beaman. “Our kids had a great week of preparation and were very relaxed and confident.
“We had four guys wrestle above their seeds to punch their ticket. When those things happen you know you are doing things the right way. These guys are excited to go compete. Great reward for the hard work they put in.”
Reinhardt (37-14) had two pins before beating Maguire Hoy of Kuemper 14-4 in the championship match. Hayden (28-24) also had two falls and then persevered the spot with a 17-1 tech fall over Kyler Tendal of Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
Hendricks (50-1) will make his third state trip following a dominating day with a tech fall in 45 seconds (18-2) and a pin in 1:46 over Kieran Polking of Carroll.
Henry Kramer (126), Caleb Vinsand (144), Jaxson Kirchhoff (150), Braden Downs (157), and Tate Halverson (175) all advanced after finishing second for Humboldt.
Vinsand (30-20) lost in the championship round, but advanced with a fall in 1:21 over Michael Rowedder of Carroll (1:21) in the true second-place matchup.
Kramer (31-29), Kirchhoff (37-17), Downs (41-14) and Halverson (36-20) all advanced after losing in the district finals, but advanced with no challenge.
Cowboys qualify 10
WEBSTER CITY — Clarion-Goldfield-Dows has packed its state card, with 10 wrestlers after winning seven district championships as the Cowboys walked away here Saturday with a team crown.
Cole Wibholm (106), Estuardo Lopez (113), Paxton Redenius (120), Adrian Phetxoumphone (126), Linden Phetxoumphone (132), Colin Sesker (157), and JT Kelso (285) were all district gold medalists. Ryan Hartwig (138), Ryland Morgan (165) and Easton Beyer (175) advanced as runner-ups.
Wibholm pinned Hayden Shear of Clear Lake in 1:13 and Lopez beat John Amos of Clear Lake, 7-2 to claim first at their respective weights. Redenius won a tight 9-8 decision over Southeast Valley’s Wyatt Blair for the 120 crown.
Brothers Adrian Phetxoumphone and Linden Phetxoumphone combined for two tech falls and two pins. Adrian stuck Dylan Terwilliger of Eagle Grove in 1:48. Linden had a 15-0 tech fall over Kayden Landers of Denver.
Esker’s title came with a close 5-4 decision over Haden Schafer of Eagle Grove. Kelso pinned Kamden Teisinger of Denver in 3:06.
Morgan lost in the finals at 165, but clinched a spot with a fall in 3:03 over Caden Hauenstein of Eagle Grove in a true second-place matchup.
Beyer’s ticket was punched with a fall in 1:20 in a true-second match against Izaiah Duncan of Forest City. Hartwig advanced with no challenge after losing in the 138-pound finals.
Bulldogs advance nine
SIOUX CENTER — Algona stormed into a Class 2A district here on Saturday, won a championship, crowned five champs and advanced nine to Des Moines.
Bishop Garrigan students CJ McGregor (144) and Carter McGregor (157) — along with Barrett Morgan (150), Brody Shipler (175), and Will Limbaugh (285) — all claimed crowns.
Teagan Alesch (120), Brooks Morgan (132), Taevyn Zinnel (165), and Tayten Rummel (215) were all second.
CJ McGregor easily advanced with two tech falls and a 11-2 major decision over Braxton Johnson of Estherville-Lincoln Central. Carter McGregor had two pins, sticking Bennett Duitsman of Estherville-Lincoln Central in 3:07 for gold.
Barrett Morgan pinned Warren Duitsman of Estherville-Lincoln Central in 3:18. Shipler’s title came with a fall in 3:02 over Kolt Roos of Sheldon/South O’Brien.Limbaugh punched his spot with an 8-0 major over Jack Leng of Sheldon/South O’Brien.
Rummel fought through the bracket to earn a state bid. Rummel had two falls before losing in the finals. He dominated Ayden Miller of Sheldon/South O’Brien, 18-1, to earn a spot.
Alesch, Morgan and Zinnel moved on with no challenges. Alesch had a fall, Morgan had two falls and Zinnel recorded a pin.
Wynkoop, Elliott are in
Senior Gavin Wynkoop (26-13) earned his state spot by claiming the 144-pound title in his home gym. Wynkoop had a pin and tech fall before beating Cannen Beaumont of Denver, 7-3, to earn the crown.
Classmate Cody Elliott (29-10) earned his second straight state trip, winning a true second-place matchup at 215.
Elliott had two major decisions before losing in the finals. He then advanced with a fall in 3:34 over Eagle Grove’s Christian Schild.
Quartet of Eagles soar
Four Eagles will fly into the state tournament.
Dylan Terwilliger (126), Hunter Waldo Martinez (132), Hayden Schafer (157), and Jayden Kreitlow (190) were all district runner-ups.
Waldo Martinez (37-15) had a major decision and then lost in the semifinals. He earned his spot with three straight wins. He had two pins, then majored Kayden Landers of Denver, 18-4.
Terwilliger (41-12), Schafer (28-6) and Kreitlow (45-12) advanced by no challenge. Terwilliger had a fall and tech fall; Schafer had a fall and a decision; and Kreitlow had a decision and major.
Blair advances
Wyatt Blair (120) earned a spot at state, wrestling back for a win in a true second-place matchup.
Blair (46-6) won his semifinal match 13-5. He lost a tight 9-8 decision to Paxton Redenius of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
Blair then reached Des Moines with a 7-3 win over Tyler Nuss of Denver.
Three Rams qualify
Brennan Jacobs (106), Jaron Jacobs (120) and Degan Miller (165) reached the state tournament for the Rams.
Jaron Jacobs (30-9) and Miller (27-9) were district champs on Saturday.
Jaron Jacobs claimed the district title with a fall and decision. He beat Carson Tedrow of Carroll, 7-2 in the finals.
Miller had a quick day, earning two falls. He pinned Noah Chapman of Sergeant Bluff-Luton in 1:31.
Brennan Jacobs (33-4) lost in the finals, but moved on with no challenge.
