Triton nation hit hard by sudden death of athlete
The Iowa Central football program was recently hit with devastating news of the passing of a current player.
Ethan Walker, an offensive lineman for the Tritons from Grinnell, died unexpectedly from a sudden medical event while on vacation in Orlando, Fla. with his girlfriend, Kenzie McClelland, and members of her family.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Walker was a redshirt freshman this past fall for the Tritons, who finished 8-4 overall with a win in the Game One Bowl.
A GoFundMe page was put together to help cover the transportation and specialized care required to bring Walker home from Florida, along with emergency travel, lodging and funeral services.
“Ethan was a teammate to so many in so many ways,” the page read, “and we want to ensure he receives the farewell he deserves and a lasting legacy that reflects the impact he had on us all.”
Walker played football and basketball in high school at Grinnell.
A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday at Grinnell Christian Church.
