It was a quick night of work for the second-ranked Iowa Central wrestling team here on Thursday.

The Tritons received five forfeits and swept the remaining five matches to shut out Ellsworth inside Hodges Fieldhouse by a final of 58-0.

Prior to the start of the dual, Iowa Central (13-1 overall, 5-1 in the ICCAC) honored its sophomore wrestlers.

“Our focus is on the next couple of weeks and really working on getting our body and mind right in the practice room,” ICCC head coach Luke Moffitt said. “It was great we could give some of these other kids an opportunity to step on the mat.

“The ones who did compete (last night) made sure to come right out and take care of business.”

Che Jenkins was the first Triton to step on the mat and get the ball rolling, as the nation’s third-ranked 141-pounder made quick work out of Gabe Brazzel with a first period fall.

Chancery Deane got one of those opportunities at 157 as well, and he also scored a pin in the opening period.

CJ Mickly and seventh-ranked (197 pounds) Umair Ahmad picked up technical fall victories for Iowa Central. Marcelo Rosario then finished off the night — and the shutout — with a fall in the first period at heavyweight.

Earning forfeit victories were Matthew Ireland, Shane Schwab, Matt Roche, Derrick Foster and Damarcus Powe.

The Tritons head to Dubuque for the Loras Open this Saturday and have one dual left on Feb. 4 in Mason City against North Iowa Area.

Starting at $4.94/week.
