Three-game week ahead for Dodger hoop squads

The Fort Dodge basketball teams will begin the new year with another busy week.

The Dodgers host Ames on Tuesday and Sioux City West on Friday. A road trip to Ankeny Centennial then ends the week on Saturday.

The Dodger girls (2-6 overall) start all three doubleheaders, with the contest versus the Little Cyclones (2-5) beginning at 6:15 p.m. The contest against the Wolverines (1-6) will start at 5:30 p.m. The final matchup versus the Jaguars (2-5) on Saturday is at 3:30 p.m.

The FDSH boys (1-7) will follow each varsity girls game.

Fort Dodge has lost three straight contests on the girls’ side. Head coach Scott Messerly’s squad has defeated Des Moines East and Humboldt.

The Dodgers are led by senior LJ Maehl, who is averaging 16 points a contest and pulling down 8.8 rebounds.

Freshman Brooklyn Gilliland is scoring 5.5 a night, and sophomore Malay Hollins is at 4.8.

Maehl is inching closer to the all-time scoring record. She is at 1,109 career points, behind only Molly Nelson (1,172).

Maehl also broke the 500-mark in rebounds before the break, and currently stands at 536 boards.

The Little Cyclones are led by Victoria Williams (13.9), Natalya Deardorff (9.1), and Lyza Britten (7.1).

The West girls are paced by Every Jackson (5.5). Centennial’s leaders are Lizzie Beam (16.9) and Faith Perpich (9.7).

The Dodger boys (1-7) are looking to shake a four-game skid and will begin the week with unbeaten Ames (7-0), followed by a contest with the Wolverines (4-2). They’ll finish with the Jaguars (1-5) in Ankeny.

Fort Dodge has been led by Reggie Pederson (10.3), Hayden Zuspann (6.7), Taevon Feeley (6.1) and Tytrell Mosley (5.4).

No. 7 (4A) Ames is paced by Will Thomas (15.8) and Dau Marach (10.0). The leading scorers for the Wolverines have been Roman Henry (26.0) and Eduardo Frazier (20.0). Kamren Hegna is also scoring in double figures at 12 points per night.

Centennial is led by Keaton Kasperbauer (10.7).
