The Fort Dodge girls put together their best performance of the season on Monday at the Family Bowling Center.
The Dodgers knocked off Waterloo East 2,170-2,100. It was Fort Dodge’s best showing to date by over 120 pins.
“Our best night by far,” said FDSH girls coach Nick Vinson. “We stayed in it with our singles and won it with our baker’s. We were up 44 after singles and had a tremendous night in baker’s.”
Fort Dodge dropped the boys match 3,096-2,733.
For the girls, Calli Graves turned in the top performance with a 378. She rolled two games of 189.
Ara Ellis was next in line with a 321. She had games of 169 and 152.
“Calli, Ara and Sammantha (Welter) had big singles performances,” Vinson said. “Those scores gave us a chance at the end.”
Welter had a 259 (125-134). Joely Gilbert (119-94–213), Kaylie Guthrie (94-115–209) and Cierra Robell (57-92–149) followed for Fort Dodge.
“We showed we are capable of bowling good numbers,” Vinson said. “It was a great way to end the dual season.”
The Dodgers boys also had their best performance with their highest total of the year.
“The boys bowled great, shooting our best total by over 100,” said FDSH boys coach Julie Ulrich. “The match itself wasn’t a (victory), but our team score was definitely a win.
“I told the boys we needed our five scoring series to all be over 300, and for the first time this season, they were. A lot of positives came from our meet.”
For the Dodger boys, Kody VanValkenburg had the highest series with a 400. He had games of 180 and 220.
Slade Babb had the highest game with a 224 to go along with a 162 for a 386 total.
Leland Sassman was next in line with a 326 (170-156). Also rolling for Fort Dodge was Blake Seeman (170-156–326), Orrin Rurup (153-166–319) and Lium Powers 141-145–289).
“Kody VanValkenburg the second highest 400 series of the season,” Ulrich said. “He anchored for us, marking 93 percent of his frames, while striking 10 times.
“Slade Babb rolled a 386 with a team high singles game of 224. Slade and Leland both did a nice job for us in bakers as well.”
The Fort Dodge boys junior varsity lost 2,092-1941. Jake Pingel led the Dodgers with a 287. Pingel had games of 141 and 146.
Tyler Halbach (127-147–274), Eli Johnson (122-123–245), Greyson Chance (107-125–232), Tyson Squire (113-114–227), Bailen Peterson (107-125–217) were next in line.
Maryah McDonald had a 190 and Liva Kalvig had a 181 for the Dodger girls JV.
The Dodgers are back in action on Wednesday at Des Moines Lincoln.
