St. Edmond wrestlers on the mat
ALGONA — The St. Edmond wrestling team kicked off a big three-day stretch with North Central Conference triangular action here Thursday night.
Algona swept the meet, earning dual wins over both the Gaels and Webster City, as the Lynx finished 1-1 with a win over St. Edmond.
In a 61-9 loss to Webster City, Matthew Crimmins earned a decision and Evan Knox picked up a fall.
Crimmins downed Gavin Wynkoop by decision at 144 pounds, 9-6, and Knox pinned Juan Raymundo Bernal at 165 pounds in 4:29.
Against Algona, Crimmins added a second win on the night, pinning Harold Reynolds in 3:38. The Bulldogs claimed the dual, 72-12
Jace Stanley locked up a first period fall for the Gaels, pinning Gavin Maxwell in 1:05 at 113 pounds.
Algona opened the triangular with a 70-11 victory over Webster City, reeling off 12 consecutive wins with bonus points. Teagan Alesch, Thomas Zabka, Cayden Myhre, CJ McGregor, Carter McGregor, Taevyn Zinnel, Brody Shipler, Tayten Rummel and Will Limbaugh all recorded falls.
Barrett Morgan and Cael Rotert secured technical falls while Brooks Morgan was awarded a forfeit.
Alesch, Zabka, Barrett Morgan, Zinnel and Limbaugh all added falls vs. St. Edmond, as Brooks Morgan, Myhre, Carter McGregor, Rotert, Shipler and Rummel earned forfeits.
For the Lynx, Angel Ramirez won by technical fall and Lincoln Brookshire by pin. In the dual with the Gaels, Brookshire, Andrew Vaughn and Peyton Weisberg claimed falls, Ty Bingham and Tariq Burton won by technical fall, Ramirez by decision and Sidney Walker, Ridge Berninghaus, Briggs Peppel, Eli Estlund and Cody Elliott by forfeit.
