Schlienz powers St. Edmond girls to 11th win
WEST BEND — The St. Edmond girls stepped out of North Central Conference play and put on a stellar performance here Thursday night, besting West Bend-Mallard by a score of 62-26.
The win marked the first time the Gaels (11-4 overall) have topped the Wolverines (5-11) in six meetings. They have now won four straight non NCC games and six of seven overall.
Junior Sophia Schlienz scored a career-high 23 points, knocking down seven 3-pointers on the night. Schlienz had 18 of her points in the third period, when she made six of those triples.
Eden Horn added 14 points and Chloe Palmer 11.
“We talked at halftime and played much better in the third quarter,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We were trying to force things and we weren’t getting back on defense. Give West Bend-Mallard credit because they were beating us to the offensive boards.
“But we played probably our best third quarter since I’ve been here. Sophia was hitting everything, and we were doing all the little things we needed to do to be successful.”
St. Edmond was up by 12 after the first and 14 at the break before extending its advantage 52-18 heading into the final quarter.
For the Wolverines, Scarlett Olson had 11 and Addie Montag eight.
“We’ve had chances to put teams away this year and haven’t been able to really do it,” Tracy said. “I thought we did a great job of putting our foot down in that third quarter and pushing the game out of reach.”
The Gaels return home for the next five games starting Friday night vs. Hampton-Dumont/CAL in conference action.
