Gaels dive back into NCC action
Both St. Edmond basketball teams will look for season sweeps over two North Central Conference opponents this week.
The Gael girls (8-3 overall) look to extend a recent three-game win streak at Iowa Falls-Alden (7-5) on Tuesday before hosting Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (0-11) on Friday.
The girls kick-start the doubleheader nights at 6 p.m.
The top-ranked Gael boys (10-2) started the week on Monday night with a narrow setback at fourth-ranked Bishop Garrigan (12-1).
In the first meeting against the Cadets, the Gael girls won 58-31. They’ve also beaten the Cowgirls 47-7.
Junior Chloe Palmer is scoring leader for St. Edmond, averaging 13.5 points a night. Freshman Eden Horn is averaging a double-double in her young career. She is at 12.5 points per game and pulling down 14.8 rebounds.
Abby Huss (7.3), Sophia Schlienz (5.7) and Anna Lursen (5.4) are the other leaders for SEHS.
The Cadets have two players averaging double figures. Elody England is near the 20-point mark, averaging 19.6 per contest. Isabelle Janssen is at 12.8.
The Gael boys reached the 80-point plateau against both the Cadets (85-46) and Cowboys (81-54) earlier this season.
Senior Hunter Horn is the top scorer for St. Edmond at 26.1 points per contest while also pulling down 9.3 rebounds.
Gael teammates Carson Bargfrede (13.4) and Jakob Koopman (10.2) are in double figures, while Grant Galles is scoring 8.6 per night.
The Cadets (1-10) are led by Karsen Kalous (11.3), Collin Pieper (7.5) and Brody McNeal (7.5).
Chaz Lane (17.1) and Huxley Lingenfelter (11.2) are the leading scorers for the Cowboys (9-2, 4-2).
