Gaels can’t catch No. 14 CL
CLEAR LAKE — Playing for the third time this week on the road caught up to the St. Edmond girls here Friday night.
No. 14 (Class 3A) Clear Lake used a late run to remain unbeaten in the North Central Conference, posting a 52-38 victory.
“It was a hard-fought game that was very physical,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “The ball didn’t bounce our way at times and we just couldn’t get shots to fall.
“Playing our third road game this week, against the top team in the NCC at their place, it was a challenge.”
The Gaels (5-3 overall, 4-2 in league) were up to that challenge in the early going, taking a 15-13 lead after the first. Chloe Palmer scored 12 points, Abby Huss added nine and Eden Horn finished with six.
Both Olivia Andrew and Anna Lursen chipped in four, as Sophia Schlienz finished with three.
Clear Lake, though, would take a 32-23 lead into the half before holding St. Edmond to just two points over the final eight minutes. The Lions are now 8-1 on the season and 6-0 in the NCC.
Jacelyn Ainley finished with 16 points, Lillian Beresford had 12 and Alaina Hartl 10.
“We competed hard from start to finish,” Tracy said. “I was proud of the effort they put forth. We’ll use the weekend to rest up and get back after it next week.”
The Gaels return home for the first time in 2026, hosting Eagle Grove on Monday and Manson Northwest Webster on Thursday.
