Gaels back on the court with busy four-day road trip
The St. Edmond basketball teams hit the road to open 2026 this week.
The Gaels travel to Humboldt with a 6 p.m. start on Tuesday, then to Jewell for a twinbill versus South Hamilton on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
St. Edmond closes the week at Clear Lake on Friday with a 6 p.m. tip.
The top-ranked (Class 1A) Gael boys (5-0 overall) will face the Wildcats (3-3) first. St. Edmond enters the contest led by senior Hunter Horn, who is averaging 28 points per night and 9.4 rebounds.
Horn has 1,242 points in his career, while pulling down 556 rebounds.
Classmate Carson Bargfrede is averaging 13.4 a night, while Jakob Koopman (9.4) and Grant Galles (8.4) — both seniors as well — help to anchor the SEHS offense.
For Humboldt, twin brothers Chase Flaherty (10.8) and Jackson Flaherty (9.2) are the leading scorers.
The Hawk boys (0-8) have yet to break into the win column. Sam Koehnk (6.1) is the leading scorer.
The Gaels will finish the week at unbeaten and second-rated (3A) Clear Lake (4-0). The Lions lean on Jaxson McIntire (18.8) and Trevor Theobald (12.5).
The St. Edmond girls (3-2) start the week with Humboldt (3-3) on Tuesday. The Gaels are paced by freshman post Eden Horn, who is averaging a double-double with 13.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per night.
Chloe Palmer (10.6), Abby Huss (7.0) and Sophia Schlienz (6.2) help balance the SEHS offense.
Ava Fischer (19.8) is the leading scorer for the Wildcats, followed by Jada VandeWalle (8.5) and Landry Lash (7.2).
The Hawks (3-5) have been anchored by Emma Lammers (7.2) and Tessa Skartvedt (6.5).
No. 15 Clear Lake (6-0), unbeaten so far on the season, has relied on Jacelyn Ainley (14.3) and Ashleigh Amble (12.7) to lead the charge.
