Gael boys roll past Cadets
IOWA FALLS — The No. 1 (Class 1A) St. Edmond boys came out with something to prove here Tuesday night.
After a tough road loss at fourth-ranked Bishop Garrigan Monday, the Gaels ran through Iowa Falls-Alden, 81-35.
St. Edmond (11-2 overall, 6-1 in North Central Conference) led 56-11 at the half. Carson Bargfrede had 28 points and Hunter Horn 26 to lead the way.
“They really came out with focus and determination,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “Sometimes after a tough loss, you can hang your head, but they didn’t do that.
“We had a lot of guys like Jakob (Koopman), Grant (Galles) and Jack (McElroy) looking to make the extra pass and instead of looking to score. And Jack did a tremendous job on defending (Karsen Kalous) their leading scorer.”
The Cadets (1-11, 0-6) were led by Brody McNeal’s 10 and Kalous finished with nine.
“I was happy with the way we moved the ball,” Kochendorfer said. “When you get ahead, it is easy to start hunting for points, but they didn’t do that. That is a very encouraging sign.
“Carson did a great job getting to the basket, which can only help him going forward.”
St. Edmond returns home, hosting Clarion-Goldfield/Dows Friday night.
