Fort Dodge swimmers compete at IAC meet
AMES — The Fort Dodge boys swim squad competed at the Iowa Alliance Conference meet on Saturday.
The Dodgers placed eighth with 46 team points. Ames (309) was the team champion, followed by Des Moines Lincoln (218).
Aiden Seagren turned in the top performance for the Dodgers, taking third in the 100 butterfly in a time of 59.57.
Israel Thomas (58.46) of Roosevelt was the winner, followed by Silas Erickson (59.09) of Ames.
“It was really cool to see Aiden get all-conference honors,” said FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont. “It was his best time of the season. He has set high goals for himself and he is accomplishing them.”
David Nelson brought back a seventh-place performance in the 100 backstroke for the Dodgers in a time of 1:03.95.
Jonathan Miller (53.56) of Ottumwa won the event.
“”David had a great swim in the backstroke,” Beaumont said. “He continues to drop time.
“He actually swims the 100 backstroke in an unusual way, going faster on the second 50 than the first. But it just shows the strength he has.”
Despite the challenging field, Beaumont did see time drops and improvements.
“They are some of the toughest teams (in the state), with Ames and Des Moines Roosevelt and Lincoln,” Beaumont said. “There were tight races.
“Jayden Stanley swam well in the 500 freestyle, dropping 14 seconds, which shows how far he has come. Trevor Roberts had his best time in the 100 freestyle.”
The Dodgers in action on Feb. 7 in a district meet in Mason City.
