Dodgers win a pair at lanes
The Fort Dodge bowling teams opened the second portion of the season with two victories at Family Bowling Center.
The Dodger boys won 2,588-1,816 over Des Moines East.
The girls earned a 2,045-1,855 over East.
Kody VanValkenburg led the Dodgers with a 423. He had games of 211 and 212. Slade Babb was next in line with a 350 (163-187).
Also competing for the Dodgers was Leland Sassman (153-169–322), Blake Seeman (152-166–318), Lium Powers (159-133–292) and Holden Doster (143-144–287).
“It was great to come back after the holiday break and get a win,” said Fort Dodge boys head coach Julie Ulrich. “The boys bowled well overall. We had three decent baker games, and one really good one, but man, we just can’t have a 127 in the mix.
“The boys know that come post season they have to completely eliminate those low scores if we want a chance to qualify for state.”
Sammantha Welter paced the Dodger girls with a 355 series. She had games of 167 and 188. Ara Eilas was next in line with a 319. She had games of 165 and 154. Calli Graves had games of 136 and 148 for a 284.
Also checking in for the Dodgers was Joely Gilbert (143-126–269), Liva Kalvig (86-89–175) and Cierra Robell (78-95–173).
“It’s nice to start like this coming out of break,” said Fort Dodge head coach Nick Vinson. “Calli, Sammantha, Ara and Joely all bowled really well. The team had a strong night together.
“Joely had the night of her life. I give her a lot of credit for the way she competed.”
The Fort Dodge boys junior varsity won 2,126-1,171.
Orrin Rurup led the Dodgers with a 353. He had games of 193 and 160.
