Dodgers back in action for three more
The Fort Dodge girls basketball team will look to extend their win streak to three to tip off another three-game slate this week.
The Dodger girls (5-8 overall) get started on Tuesday at Waterloo East (8-5), with a home contest against Mason City (4-9) on Friday and a road trip to Des Moines Lincoln (4-8) on Saturday.
Tuesday and Friday’s action tips at 6:15 p.m., with Saturday varsity twinbill beginning at 4 p.m.
The Dodger boys (1-12) will only play Tuesday and Friday.
The FDSH defeated Des Moines East (56-11) and Des Moines Hoover (54-43) on the road this past week. In the win over East, senior LJ Maehl had 25 points to become the school’s all-time leading scorer. Maehl added 18 in the victory Hoover, up ping her total to 1,196 career points.
Freshman Brooklyn Gilliland led the Dodgers with a career-best performance of 24 points against Hoover.
Entering the week, Maehl is averaging 16.5 points, and 9.1 rebounds. Gilliland is scoring at 7.6 clip.
Sophomore Malay Hollins is at 5.2.
The girls are looking to turn the tide against both East and Mason City. The Dodgers lost to the Trojans (61-39) and the Riverhawks (50-26) earlier this season.
East’s leading scorers are Ka’Jhira Mhoon (11.3 points), Graysyn Downing (10.5) and Kaelin Knipp (10.1).
Anna Latham is the leader for the Riverhawks, scoring 10.1 points per contest. Gracyn Braun (8.7) and Armani Caldwell (8.1) are right behind.
Lincoln’s leading scorers are Jumi Kayode (10.1) and Kleiah Ochoa (7.3).
The Dodger boys lost to both the Trojans and Riverhawks earlier this season. Fort Dodge is coming off a heartbreaking 47-46 loss to Des Moines Hoover.
The Dodgers are led by sophomore Reggie Pederson, who is averaging 10.9 points per contest. Hayden Zuspann is scoring at a 6.9 clip. Sophomore Brody Maehl is averaging 6.9 points and 4.8 rebounds.
Jeremy Waters-Wright is in double figures for the Trojans (11.4 points). Quayshon Harrington-Johnson (8.9), Davieon Van Arsdale (8.5) and Isaiah Thomas (6.2) follow for East.
The Riverhawks have three players in double figures: Marcele Whitner (17.6), Owen Rickers (13.7) and Ty Sanchez-Evans (11.2).
