Dodger wrestlers pin Waterloo East
WATERLOO — There are a number of achievements Fort Dodge senior Rylee Brown is hoping to earn this season.
On Thursday night, the 165-pounder reached a mark, earning his 100th career victory in Fort Dodge’s 59-21 victory over Waterloo East on Thursday night.
Brown, a three-time state qualifier, earned a fall in 2:27 over Dezmond Johnson.
“Rylee usually peaks in the second part of the season,” said FDSH head coach Bobby Thompson. “He gets his mat IQ back and he starts rolling when he needs to.
“He’s a three-time state qualifier that is looking for No. 4 and wants to get on the podium. He’s been a solid part of Fort Dodge wrestling, so it’s nice to see him get his 100th win.”
Classmate Jese Egli (10-4) is also chasing the century mark, and inched closer with a fall in 2:49 over Norshawn Pompilus.
Egli (190) is sitting at 98-65 in his career. He is also a three-time state qualifier.
Fort Dodge picked up 10 victories overall, winning six of the completed matches in their first action of 2026.
“It was good to get out of the holiday mode and back on the mat, competing again,” Thompson said. “Waterloo East has some talented athletes, and they are well-coached.
“It’s a competitive environment. They have a good crowd with a student body that cheers their athletes on in an encouraging atmosphere. It was a great road experience, and we have some young athletes that got their feet wet.”
Senior Hunter Kasperbauer (132) earned a fall in 1:13 over Xavier Ibarra. Sophomore Amari McCaleb (150) picked up a 17-0 first period tech fall over Brody Hall in 1:47.
Sophomore Damien Yeoman (113) also had a first-period fall, pinning Skyler Tovar in 1:46.
“It was nice to see Hunter getting a fall and coming out and (accumulating) bonus points,” Thompson said. “Amari had a big match, getting bonus points, and Damien got an important fall.”
Top-ranked senior Dreshaun Ross (13-0) extended his high school winning streak to 115 straight matches with a 54-second fall over Jayden Dunn at 285. Ross is now 124-2 in his career, 15th on Fort Dodge’s all-time win list.
Picking up forfeit victories for the Dodgers were Knox Ayala (106), Trace Rial (120), Caiden Fraher (157) and Cael Adams (215).
Fort Dodge is back in action on Saturday when at the ultra-competitive Mendenhall Invitational in Ames.
