The Fort Dodge boys swim squad is tired.
That isn’t dampening the spirits of the Dodgers heading into the stretch run of the season, though.
The Dodgers had a make-up dual with Marshalltown on Monday, falling 116-53 to the Bobcats. It was FDSH’s third time in the pool during a frantic 100-hour stretch, which also saw head coach Ashley Beaumont’s group compete last Thursday at Des Moines Hoover and on Saturday in their home Rusty Garst Invitational.
“It’s been tough and they’re kind of sore, but no one is complaining,” Beaumont said. “Going Thursday, Saturday and Monday isn’t easy, but it’s such a positive, happy team.
“We tried to keep things lighter and work kids into different events (against the Bobcats). They swam tired but had fun.”
Aiden Seagren captured both the 100 backstroke (1:06.69) and 100 butterfly (1:02.10). The Dodger senior had never raced live in the 100 back during his prep career.
“It’s the only event he’s never done at the varsity level,” Beaumont said. “So that was cool to see him go out there and win it.”
The 400 freestyle relay quartet of Seagren, Jayden Stanley, Cael Hansen and David Nelson also brought home gold on Monday. Trevor Roberts was a runner-up in the 50 freestyle, as was the 200 medley relay of Nelson, Hansen, Seagren and Roberts.
Chancellor Grimm won the JV 100 freestyle.
On Saturday at the Garst Invite, Seagren was fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:17.31). The Dodgers’ 400 free relay quartet of Seagren, Nelson, Hansen and Stanley also took fourth (3:51.88).
“We were very happy with the 400 free relay, and the medley relay continues to show a lot of growth,” Beaumont said. “There were some amazing swimmers and times at the Garst. A lot of the best in the entire state. Very impressive performances.”
Seagren finished seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:00.92). Nelson was 10th in the 100 backstroke (1:04.50).
The medley relay of Nelson, Hansen, Seagren and Roberts touched the wall in seventh (1:56.27).
Sioux City edged Decorah and Carroll for the overall crown at the Garst. Teagen Renze of Carroll was a double winner (100 backstroke and 200 freestyle), as was teammate Leegan Seese (100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly).
Fort Dodge hosts Ames and Boone on Thursday.
