Tritons set for Game One Bowl
CEDAR FALLS — The 10th-ranked Iowa Central football team will get out of the elements and into the climate-controlled UNI-Dome for one final game this season.
The Tritons host No. 14 Snow College here Sunday at noon in the Game One Bowl.
Iowa Central (7-4 overall) won three of four down the stretch, as all four losses this year came to teams currently ranked in the Top-10 in the country in No. 1 Hutchinson, second-ranked Iowa Western, No. 7 Coffeyville and ninth-rated Butler.
Under head coach Jesse Montalto, the Tritons have ended each of the past seven seasons with a postseason win, as six of those have come inside the UNI-Dome. The other bowl game was played at Dodger Stadium.
One of those seven was a 2023 victory over Snow by a score of 44-9.
Montalto, meanwhile, is a perfect 11-0 in his coaching career in the postseason, winning four consecutive bowl games at Ellsworth prior to taking over at Iowa Central.
It has been a busy few weeks for the Tritons, as a number of players signed to continue playing at four-year schools including leading tackler Taylor Schaefer, who committed to Wisconsin.
Jordan Jensen and Alan Pond, members of the offensive line, committed to Kansas State and Tulsa, as Dalen Huston signed with Louisiana-Monroe and Will Norman with Troy.
Sophomore Damarcus Creecy leads the offense with 1,045 yards passing and 13 TDs, adding a team-high 654 yards rushing with nine more touchdowns. Ethan Johnson has 635 yards on the ground and five TDs while CJ Phillip has 304 and four.
Jacob Kania leads with 38 receptions, with eight of those going for touchdowns, as Louisville transfer Kamare Williams has 494 yards receiving and five TDs.
Iowa Central has won 11 consecutive bowl games and 22 overall, as they are playing for a fifth Top-10 national finish in the last six years with a win.
The Badgers (6-4) have dropped games to three ranked teams and the Army JV, scoring two wins over Lackawanna during the regular season. They are led by Seth Rigtrup, who has almost 700 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.
Snow is coached by Zac Erekson, a former wide receiver at BYU who played on the 2006 Mountain West Conference championship team. He has led the Badgers to a national title in his first season at the helm in 2020 and a spot in the national semifinals the following year.
