Triton women pull away, 71-52

Ashlin Jacobsen scored a team-high 17 points and Trista Ohlmeier recorded a double-double as the Iowa Central women handled Central-Columbus here Wednesday night inside Hodges Fieldhouse, 71-52.
Ohlmeier scored 16 points and gathered 11 rebounds, adding five blocked shots, three steals and two assists for the Tritons (9-3 overall, 4-2 in the ICCAC), who improved to 4-1 at home this season.
Jacobsen and Ohlmeier were a combined 14-for-26 from the field. Jacobsen added six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Sharon Greek and MacKenna Bush each scored nine points for Iowa Central. Amelia Echternkamp, Kaydence Nicholas and Ashleigh Kerr all added six points each.
Nicholas also had 10 rebounds with two steals while Kerr had five rebounds.
“It was great to get another home win,” ICCC head coach Graham McFall said. “We weathered the storm after a slow start and played together.
“It was great to close the game out (with a) 47-24 (point run). We were also very pleased with our advantage on the glass.”
For the Raiders (5-9, 1-5), Lexi Fiscus had a game-high 24 to go along with nine rebounds and five steals.
After taking a one-point lead into the second quarter, Iowa Central found itself down 28-24 at the break. They came out in the third and outscored Central, 22-12, as Greek had all nine of her points on three made 3-pointers.
In the fourth, the Tritons continued to pull away. Ohlmeier had eight points, and Bush buried two triples.
Iowa Central erased an eight-point deficit in the first half, turning that into a double-digit lead behind a plus-15 advantage on the glass and 16 second-chance points.
The Tritons turn their attention to this Friday for a special early tip at 11 a.m. vs. Minnesota North-Vermilion for Education Day at Hodges Fieldhouse. Local and area elementary students will be in attendance for the game.
