Late struggles hamper FD girls
MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge girls basketball team had Mason City’s number heading into the fourth quarter.
A 24-2 run in the final eight minutes gave the Riverhawks (3-1 overall) a 50-26 victory over the Dodgers (2-4).
“Mason City made some shots down the stretch,” said Fort Dodge head coach Scott Messerly. “We just couldn’t get shots to fall in the final eight minutes.
“We played well enough to win heading into the fourth quarter.”
Freshman Brooklyn Gilliland led the Dodgers with eight points. LJ Maehl had six points and seven rebounds. Grace Nicols pulled down seven rebounds as well.
Fort Dodge led 18-16 at halftime and trailed 26-24 heading into the fourth.
Gracyn Braun led the Riverhawks with 17 points. Anna Latham had 12 and Brogan Evans chipped in with 10.
The Dodgers are back in action on Friday at Marshalltown.
