Fort Dodge teams hit the road twice
The Fort Dodge basketball teams close out the 2025 portion of the schedule away from home starting this week with pair of doubleheaders.
Up first is a trip Tuesday night to Mason City followed by another long-time conference rival in Marshalltown on Friday. Both twinbills begin at 6:15 p.m.
After opening last week with a win over Humboldt, the Dodger girls (2-4 overall, 0-1 in Iowa Alliance North) dropped a 61-39 decision to Waterloo East in the conference opener.
Senior LJ Maehl leads Fort Dodge at 18 points and nearly nine rebounds per game, as sophomore Malay Hollins and freshman Brooklyn Gilliland add five. Grace Nichols is averaging six rebounds per game and Gilliland 5.5.
For the Riverhawks (2-4, 0-1), they lost to Marshalltown last week, 46-26. Anna Latham and Gracyn Braun are the leading scorers.
The Bobcats (6-0, 1-0) have posted three consecutive double-digit wins since getting by Newton over Des Moines East, Des Moines Hoover and Mason City. Senior Millie Heitmann averages a team-leading 11.7 points per game followed by juniors Frankie Long and Amairra Johnson.
Willie Williams and the Fort Dodge boys (1-4, 0-1) fell to Waterloo East, 57-45, after suffering a seven-point defeat to Humboldt.
Sophomore Reggie Pederson is averaging 11 points per game to lead the Dodgers. Hayden Zuspann and Taevon Feeley are next in line in terms of scoring, as Brody Maehl leads in rebounding.
Mason City (1-4, 0-1) dropped a 46-38 decision to Marshalltown and lost to Des Moines North, 71-70. Marcele Whitner is averaging 17.4 points per game, Owen Rickers is at 15 and Ty Sanchez-Evans 12.
Marshalltown (4-1, 1-0) is paced by Kyle Smith, as the senior is averaging 16 points and 12.4 rebounds per game. Jacob Hayes is right behind at 13.6 points a night.
