Dodgers lose heartbreaker in OT
BOONE — The Fort Dodge boys dropped a heartbreaker on the road here Tuesday night to Boone, 50-47 in overtime.
After taking command of the contest in the fourth, the Dodgers (0-2 overall) saw the Toreadors (1-0) send it to the extra session on a bucket by Brandon Holm.
Reggie Pederson gave Fort Dodge the lead in overtime on two separate occassions, but Boone answered, scoring the final four points of the game.
The Dodgers had a chance to tie it, but a 3-point attempt missed as the buzzer sounded.
Pederson had a team-high 16 points and five rebounds, Brody Maehl added 11 points and Kauner Jensen, Hayden Zuspann and Taevon Feeley each had six.
“It was a good, hard fought game,” FDSH head coach Willie Williams said. “We fought back after Monday and just have a few things we need to clean up. One of those being free throw shooting. We also have to do a better job rebounding.
“I thought we contained (Boone’s 6-foot-7 senior Landon Myers) for the most part, as Brody did a great job against him.”
Boone led 21-18 at the half and held a 32-30 lead going into the final eight minutes. After the Toreadors went up 37-32 in the last quarter, Fort Dodge rallied, scoring 11 straight to take a six-point lead.
Both teams struggled at the free throw line in overtime, but Boone was able to sink a pair from senior Dayne Brekke to force the deep triple attempt by the Dodgers.
Hendrix Moorman had 17 for Boone.
Fort Dodge heads to Spencer on Friday night.
