Crimmins 2nd at Emmetsburg Invite

EMMETSBURG — The St. Edmond wrestling team took part in the Bob Roethler Invitational hosted by Emmetsburg here on Saturday.

For the second straight weekend, Matthew Crimmins scored a silver, placing second at 144 pounds.

Crimmins earned a fall in the quarterfinals over Kadin Knapp of West Bend-Mallard and an 8-2 decision vs. Hayden Kelly of West Hancock to reach the finals. In the championship match, he fell to Easton Beehler from Spencer in sudden-victory, 4-1.

“Matthew wrestled a great tournament overall,” said SEHS head coach Kaden McClintock. “He didn’t get where he wanted to, but he wrestled a full six minutes and we want him to be the best he can in February.”

Jace Stanley finished sixth overall at 120 pounds, claiming a 12-5 decision over Jackson Utesch of GTRA to keep him alive in the consolation rounds. Nick Utley was eighth at 113 pounds thanks ot a fall in the second period vs. Gustavo Chitic-Aguilar from Estherville-LC in consolation action.

Caleb Mosier also placed eighth, earning his medal at 120 pounds after earning a fall in 1:41 vs. Sheldyn Fletcher from Pocahontas Area.

“We were happy with all of our guys,” McClintock said. “Nick Utley wrestled great and Jace Stanley got a win and Caleb got a pin.

“We know that this is the first season for some of our guys on the mat and they are just raw, gritty guys that are tough and ready to learn.”

Emmetsburg’s Ryan Wirtz was a winner, claiming gold at 190 pounds, as Bradyen Yates and Nick Saxton each made the finals, settling for silver. Matt Rubel finished fourth for the E-Hawks.

Dyan Terwilliger was second at 126, Hayden Schafer finished third at 157, Jayden Kreitlow was third at 175 and James Harle scored bronze at heavyweight. Ethan Schreiber, Hunter Waldo Martinez, Keegan Eisentrager, Colson Schafer, Jackson Babcock and Christian Schild were all fifth.

For Pocahontas Area, Jakob Lawson won at 113 with a fall in 1:18 over Carter Harn from Lake Mills in the finals. William Lawson added a championship, picking up gold at 175 with a fall over Yates.

Philip Fehr and Mason Knapp were each fifth for West Bend-Mallard.
