Humboldt’s Goodell earns 1st team All-State honors

Six area athletes were recently named all-state volleyball by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Humboldt’s Adelynn Goodell and Addie Waldorf were joined by Algona’s Katie Limbaugh in Class 3A. In 2A, Emmetsburg’s Rachel Schany and Calista Joyce were joined by Ava Moline from Manson Northwest Webster.

Goodell and Waldorf helped lead the Wildcats to their first-ever state volleyball victory this past fall, placing second overall. Humboldt’s Kara Waldorf was tabbed the 3A coach of the year.

Goodell, a sophomore named first-team, recorded 307 kills with 51 aces, 44 digs and 43 blocks, serving 94 percent for the year.

Waldorf, also a 10th-grader who was on the second-team, tallied 976 assists with 91 kills, 180 digs, 52 aces and 34 blocks. She was successful on 316 of 347 serve attempts.

Limbaugh, a freshman third team selection, tallied 387 kills, 252 digs, 52 aces and 34 blocks on the year for the Bulldogs.

Schany, a senior who also qualified for the state cross country meet this year, had 238 kills, 73 digs, 55 blocks and 38 aces, while Joyce had 235 kills, 209 digs, 26 aces and 25 blocks.

Moline, a junior, had 376 kills with 304 digs, 46 blocks and 27 aces.

Schany made the third team and Joyce the fourth alongside Moline.

All-district selections included Morgan Hackbarth of Webster City; Goodell, Waldorf and Mia Schluter from Humboldt; Limbaugh; Moline; Katie Schmitt and Sarah Bontrager from East Sac County; Alayna Kakacek of Pocahontas Area; Schany, Joyce and Nora Nelson of Emmetsburg; Allie Fehr and Addison Montag of West Bend-Mallard; Ava Vie from Newell-Fonda; and Emmi Bartolo of Bishop Garrigan.
