Area girls pack all-NCC volleyball lists

After completing a perfect run through the North Central Conference, the Humboldt volleyball team was recently rewarded with four first team all-league selections.

Senior Mia Schluter and sophomore Addie Waldorf were both unanimous choices, with senior Claire Dieleman and sophomore Adelynn Goodell joined them.

Algona freshman Katie Limbaugh was also a unanimous selection, as teammate Macy Knapp and Webster City’s Morgan Hackbarth each made the first-team.

Alivia Goodell, Kendall Works and Jazzie Dodd were second team choices along with Algona’s Taylor VanOtterloo, Webster City’s Tristyn Wright and St. Edmond’s Eden Horn.

Earning third team honors were Claire Kirstein of Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, Raegan Haynes from Algona, Gracie Johnson of Humboldt, Evie Davis from Webster City and St. Edmond’s Ella Vandi.

Waldorf led the conference in assists, while Limbaugh was first in kills and service aces. Davis had the most blocks in NCC matches only and Hackbarth was first in digs.

Horn, a freshman, had 63 kills in seven NCC matches, adding 14 total blocks and two aces while serving 82 percent. For the season, she tallied 258 kills, 69 total blocks, 44 digs and 19 aces while serving 86 percent.

“Eden was a key player in both our offense and defense this past year,” SEHS head coach Lindsay Heffernan said. “Her ability to to see the court openings and knowing when it was time to hit the ball helped our team get out of some tough situations.”

Horn ranked ninth in the league in overall blocks and 11th in kills per set record.

Vandi, also a ninth-grader, recorded 12 aces while serving over 96 percent with just four misses in 111 attempts. She also had 113 digs in the conference.

Overall, Vandi had 346 digs, served 96 percent with 33 aces and added 27 assists with seven kills. She finished fifth in the NCC in digs and serving efficiency.

“Ella showed up everyday to work and lead and challenged our team to get better,” Heffernan said. “Her ability to anticipate and react to the overall game is impressive and I can’t wait to see what her future brings.”
