Wildcat trio earns 3A state CC bids
Four area individual state cross country runners advanced through the Spencer Class 3A state qualifying meet on Wednesday and will compete at the upcoming state championships.
Humboldt’s Avery Fisher, Brynn Malo and Aubry Fisher will be joined by Algona’s Gavin Weber as individual qualifiers.
Avery Fisher finished seventh overall in a time of 19:25, Malo was 11th in 19:33 and Aubry Fisher was right behind her in 12th with a time of 19:35. Humboldt won the North Central Conference team title earlier this month.
Weber, meanwhile, won the boys race to lead the Bulldogs in a time of 16:06. He was also the NCC individual boys champion.
The Top-3 teams at each qualifier and first 15 individual finishers all earned spots at the state cross country meet, which begins Friday, Oct. 31 in Fort Dodge from Kennedy Park and Lakeside Golf Course.
The 2A and 3A state meets are held Friday while 1A and 4A compete on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Natalie Anderson of MOC-Floyd Valley won the girls race, as Sioux Center, Harlan and MOC-Floyd Valley claimed the Top-3 team spots to advance.
The Humboldt girls placed sixth overall and the Algona girls were 13th while the Algona boys placed sixth and the Humboldt boys 12th.
Other Wildcat finishers were Macey Rodgers in 39th, Elsie Stattelman in 73rd, Kimberly Sanchez in 74th and Kinley Nilles in 82nd.
The Algona girls were led by Mara Davis, as she placed 25th overall. Olivia Snider (56th), Chelsey Vicente-Gomez (59th), Karsyn Bailey (79th), Natalie Orban (85th), Olivia Adams (87th) and Emmy Owen (89th) also ran for the Bulldogs.
Along with Weber’s winning run, Brooks Morgan finished 22nd, Brekin Borchardt was 38th, Axton Hood finished 46th, Caden Harms was 62nd, Cohen Thilges was 64th and Grandon Dahlhauser was 66th.
Henry Kramer led Humboldt, as he placed 30th overall in 17:46. Graham Bakken (78th), Ike Fowler (79th), Carson Chambers (80th), Joel Thurm (81st), Miles Zeman (84th) and Obed Antonio (85th) were the other Wildcat runners competing.
In Gilbert, Webster City was in action, as the boys placed eighth and the girls were 11th.
Justin Callahan led the Lynx, as he finished 19th overall in 16:53. Caleb Ten Pas of Des Moines Christian was the race winner as Gilbert, Des Moines Christian and Bondurant-Farrar advanced.
Aidan Wardell was 37th, Gabe Thumma finished 42nd, Jack Barner was 48th, Kaleb Draeger was 52nd, Arlen Lake placed 70th and Kyzer Zinnel was 73rd.
For the girls, Izzy Grossoehme finished 22nd overall in 20:22. Marlene Saavedra Mendoza (67th), Mckenna Buakham (73rd), Haedyn Soesbee (75th), Julia Griep (78th), Rubi Andrade-Murillo (80th) and Abby Peterson (81st) rounded out the lineup.
Elyse Erzen of Des Moines Christian won the girls race as Des Moines Christian, Gilbert and Winterset moved on.
