The seventh-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team honored seven sophomores in style here Wednesday night with sweep of Marshalltown.
Scores were 25-11, 25-23 and 25-13.
Addi Hindt, Anabel Seaman, Mallory Rheingans, Taylor Thompson, Shirley Monaghan, Talya Sampson and Dena Robb were all recognized as sophomores by the Tritons (22-7 overall, 9-0 in ICCAC), who improved to 9-0 inside Hodges Fieldhouse this season.
“It was great to be able to get those girls a win and play all seven sophomores,” ICCC head coach Sara Horn said. “This is a great class full of some amazing women.
“All seven of them exude student-athlete and have been very successful both on the court and in the classroom. They’ve all helped move this program in the right direction and we really appreciate them all.”
Hindt, a former Southeast Valley standout, recorded two kills and a dig in one set of action, as Sampson had a match-high 22 kills with 11 digs.
Meah McCaleb, a Fort Dodge Senior High grad who has earned a spot in the rotation as a freshman, tallied 16 digs with an ace.
Seaman dished out 40 assists, Monaghan had eight kills and Robb added seven. Monaghan also had 11 digs, Kalyn Mills registered seven digs and the Tritons combined for five aces, 12 block assists and 53 digs on the night.
The current group of sophomores have a collective record of 52-16 overall, going 18-2 in the conference and 23-2 at home.
“Our four sophomore captains — Anabel, Shirley, Dena and Talya — continue to impress on the court and it’s no surprise they’re amongst the national leaders at their positions,” Horn said. “We’re excited to see what they do as we move closer to postseason play.”
Hindt has now recorded 83 kills in 24 matches this year, adding 64 total blocks. Sampson has 844 kills and 543 digs in her career with the Tritons, as Seaman has dished out 1,638 assists to go along with 477 digs, 33 kills and 29 total blocks.
Monaghan has 339 career kills and 411 digs, as Robb has 287 kills and 175 total blocks.
Iowa Central heads to Southeastern next Wednesday before returning home Oct. 17-18 to host the Triton Invitational where they will play No. 20 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Allen County and Metropolitan.
