Tritons come up short in Top-15 road showdown
COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — The Iowa Central football team dropped a 34-21 decision to No. 12 Coffeyville here Saturday afternoon.
The ninth-ranked Tritons (4-3 overall) nearly erased all of an early 17-0 deficit, getting to within 24-21 when Jacob Kania caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Damarcus Creecy. The Red Ravens, though, answered with 10 unanswered to put the game away in the fourth.
Creecy threw for 122 yards, Ty Purdy was 8 of 13 for 121 and Trevon Taylor also had 97 yards passing.
Creecy and CJ Phillip each had rushing touchdowns.
Kania caught seven passes for 90 yards, Sejhe Jackson had four receptions for 58 and Marcellus Chandler caught five balls.
For Coffeyville (4-2), Steven Robinson ran for two touchdowns and Mac Armstrong had 258 yards passing and two scores.
Iowa Central lost three fumbles and had an interception, and the Tritons were unable to force a turnover.
Iowa Central now remains on the road, heading to Iowa Falls to face Ellsworth this coming Saturday.
