Triton women stay in ICCAC soccer title hunt

The No. 16 Iowa Central women’s soccer team kept pace in the ICCAC race with a 2-0 victory over Central here Saturday.

With the win, the Tritons set up a showdown for the league title on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with 15th-ranked Iowa Lakes. The match will be played on the campus of Iowa Central.

McKenna Hilton and Sydney Pettey tallied goals for the Tritons (10-4 overall, 6-1 in the ICCAC), who kept Central out of the net for their 10th clean sheet behind keeper Alyssa Tucker.

“It was a very good win for us,” ICCC head coach Jordan Sibenaller said. “The girls played well and now we get a shot at the regular season conference championship on our home field.”

Iowa Central has won two straight and is 4-1 at home this year, with all 10 victories resulting in shutouts. They are averaging just over three goals per game and allowing only just over one.

In the men’s match, Central downed the Tritons, 2-0. Iowa Central (11-3-1, 5-2-1) will close out the regular season Wednesday vs. Iowa Lakes at 3 p.m.
