STILL PERFECT

The seventh-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team picked up a key ICCAC victory here Tuesday night inside Hodges Fieldhouse, sweeping No. 13 Des Moines Area.

Scores were 25-20, 25-22 and 25-13.

The Tritons (19-6 overall, 7-0 in conference) have now won six straight and are 8-0 on the year at home.

“DMACC is a very good team that is very different than us,” ICCC head coach Sara Horn said. “Sometimes going into a match like that, you wonder how you are going to match up in terms of everything.

“I thought our girls did a great, especially in the first two sets. From there, they put the hammer down in the third and finished it off.”

Talya Sampson recorded 18 kills, Cooper Griffin had eight and former Southeast Valley standout Addi Hindt recorded seven. Dena Robb had the final points in both the first and second sets on kills, finishing the night with six.

That was part of setting the tone for the Tritons, as they trailed just twice, with both of those instances coming in the second set.

“I felt like we were just really mentally and physically ready to go,” Horn said. “It was also big that we finished it off in the third because we’ve had some matches where we got out fast and let the other team back in it.

“Instead, we came out strong in the third against a talented team and got the win.”

Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Meah McCaleb added 10 digs and three assists, Shirley Monaghan had five kills with 20 digs and two aces, and Anabel Seaman dished out 36 assists.

Sampson tallied 18 digs, Seaman had 12 and Kalyn Mills 10. Seaman, Sampson, Mills and Ava Paige each had a serving ace, as Robb recorded four block assists with a solo block.

Iowa Central sits tied with fourth-ranked Kirkwood for the conference lead, two games ahead of Southeastern, Northeast and DMACC. They two co-leaders square off on Thursday, Oct. 23 inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

During this six-match win streak, the Tritons have dropped just two sets, with both coming to No. 11 Sauk Valley. They have recorded 11 sweeps on the season.
